Cone Zone Ice Cream, Neptune, New Jersey
What do you get when you combine friendly service and great homemade ice cream? A great experience! This is what we found at Cold Zone Ice Cream.
When we walked in, the shop was bright and attractive. There were so many tasty -looking flavors that I asked the servers what their favorite flavors were. One server said Toasted Almond and Banana Caramel Chocolate Chip, his partner definitely preferred Java Jolt – I got a cup with all three.
My assessment was they were both correct. But while the ice creams were fantastic, I liked the Java Jolt the most followed by the Banana Caramel and finally the Toasted Almond. The Java Jolt had a strong Java flavor (I am not into ‘subtle nuisances’) and plenty of chocolate chips. The Banana likewise had a delightful strong flavor but fewer chips- still awesome. Toasted Almond was a new experience for me – I assume the taste was perfect, but I cannot be sure since I am a neophyte. It was sweet and of a coarser texture – I totally enjoyed all The flavors.
The seating was on benches outside, some under a roof and some under the sun. We started at a sunny bench, but the gusty wind was a bit strong so we opted for sitting in the car.
In the area: We spent the weekend exploring the New Jersey shore once again – there are so many cool things there!
Wells Mills County Park – this was just listed as one of NJs most scenic parks, It is a series of trails through the pine barrens – my new favorite hiking areas. There were several well marked trails and they really earned their place an the “top scenic trails” list. There was also a small nature center where I learned that Smokey was a real bear – a small cub that was rescued from a forest fire out west after scorching his paws – poor little guy!
Shark River Park. – playground, pavilion and hiking trails- flat, well marked trails. Use trails across street from playground for more interesting and quieter walk.
Cedar Bridge Tavern State Historic Site tells the story of a time when (in the 1600s) when New Jersey was split into ‘East Jersey’ and ‘West Jersey’ with the Cedar Bridge Tavern in between them. Good for a quick stop if you are in the area. oh – and even though it is called a tavern, there is no food or booze served here.
Info age Science and History Museums, Wall Township – this was a set of one room museums. I liked the ship wreck room and I loved the Satellite dish (everything else was a waste of time).
The satellite was fascinating and the lady running it was knowledgeable and fun! We got to see a pulsar in as real time, learn about satellites, see a real satellite dish up close and see it moved so I could bounce my voice off the moon. I even heard my voice come back!
