March 27, 2016
This being the day before Easter I had to make a trip to the grocery store in the morning, and my daughter had to brave the Newton Department of Motor Vehicles (after giving up at both the Lodi and Oakland Motor Vehicle Departments because the lines were very, very long). Once we got through our chores, we needed to “chill”, and only ice cream could help.
We visited Windy Brow Farms in Newton NJ on the first day they were open for the 2016 season. Since it is early in the season, the produce areas of the shop was empty – as the season progresses , there will be plenty to choose from – especially apples in the fall. But we are not here for the produce – we only care about the ice cream! Their ice cream was all home made, in flavors designed by the owner’s son who has a degree in animal science and a food science background. He seemed to have a lot of fun designing new flavors – I had Honey Lavender and Mocha Chip – my daughter had Peanut Butter Pretzel. Other flavors included Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla (vanilla ice cream in which the vanilla flavors originated in the Bourbon region of Madagascar), Salted Caramel and Milk Chocolate. We really enjoyed talking to the owner and the ice cream designer (his son) – . This was some of the best ice cream we ever had – the flavors were bold – no whimpiness here (I hate it when I have imagine flavors – French food is not for me)! I highly recommend you visit Windy Brow for great ice cream.
